Preparing the Perfect Dining Experience for One

You know the best way to look after yourself? Make a god damn delicious meal and over indulge a little. You could take a hot bath? Maybe light some candles? But I guarantee it will be no way near as satisfying as pouring a glass of red, playing some good music and taking your time to perfect your favourite dish. That my friends, is a date night for one.

Whether you’re single, or you’ve managed to get rid of your partner for an evening, you definitely deserve to treat yourself every once in a while (or even more). But when it comes to food, most of us feel too awkward to go for a meal on our own, there seems to be a social stigma surrounding it. And then if we do want something tasty, the only other option seems to be a takeaway which is almost always disappointing.

So it looks like you’re cooking for one, but I’ll give you a few tips on how to make it a really special experience…

The food has got to be good

First things first, you need to make sure that what you’re putting in your body is the good stuff. If it’s only a meal for one then why not splash out on the slightly more expensive but better quality ingredients? Is there a wine that you’ve been dying to buy but thought was a little pricey? Now it’s time to go for it. Get the best cut of meat, choose fresh vegetables and yes, it’s time to use the sea salt instead of ordinary table salt. Always remember when choosing your ingredients, it may seem expensive, but it would be a lot more if you were buying it in a restaurant. Let me tell you, that bottle of wine would not be £7.99

Take your time

You might be a lazy cook, and so this could seem like a pretty undesirable point to you, but hear me out. I can guarantee that if you take your time cooking, it is going to make the experience of sitting down and eating a lot better knowing you’ve put a good amount of hard work into it. Instead of buying a pasta sauce, make your own, why not even just make your own pasta and really put some graft in. Whatever it is you’ve decided to make, break it down into components and see which bits can be done by hand and you can pay that little extra bit of detail too.

Cosy surroundings

Creating a date meal for one isn’t just about the food, you’ve got to take the whole experience into consideration. This means making sure the house is clean, lighting a few candles here and an incense there, and choosing a great film to watch whilst you’re slurping on your bolognese. If you were planning a date with another person, what would you do? Write down a list of how you’d prepare and I want you to do the exact same things for yourself (except maybe you don’t need the lace underwear). Also, there will be no judgement for me if you choose pyjamas over a slinky dress or suit, we want to feel great, but comfort ALWAYS comes first.

And remember, you deserve the best.
